I am the Director of Technology with an insurance brokerage just outside of Chicago, Illinois. We're a fantastic organization and we have created a fantastic culture that allows us to work with the best people in our industry.
I love Linux and Open Source Software, and I've worked hard to learn different systems and use those skills to fulfil different business needs. We are a part of a large organization that is completely Windows-based. While they provide the bulk of our core infrastructure, we are responsible for implementing our own third-party and non-approved systems. I've placed Ubuntu or BSD based systems in all of our offices, and I'm continually working to improve upon what we can offer our staff.
In order to help me achieve my career goals (which seem to mount every day!) I am currently enrolled full-time at Rasmussen College. I am currently pursuing my Bachelors Degree of Business Administration in Information Technology. This is not my first attempt at college... following high school, I was enrolled at Illinois State University, and through my 3 years there I had several different majors. That lead me to Heartland Community College where I earned my Associates Degree. After that, I began working full-time for my current company, and pushed away thoughts of a degree. A few years later, I realized how important it would be to me, and enrolled as Rasmussen. I'm maintaining my 3.81 GPA and on track to graduate in March of 2012.
Now I'm considering MBA programs in the Chicagoland area.... as it appears that in continuing my education, I've open Pandora's box and now don't know when I'm going to decide that I've had enough!
